Sainik Schools are run under the Ministry of Defence by the Sainik Schools Society. Sainik Schools are associated with CBSE, Central Secondary Education Board and these schools follow CBSE’s test format, syllabus, rules and regulations. In 1961, VK Krishna Menon, who was India’s defence minister at that time, founded Sainik Schools. There are 33 schools spread over all the states of India at present.
Eligibility Criteria for All India Sainik School Entrance Exam (AISSEE) 2020
AISSEE exam is held for admission to classes VI and IX. Boys who are 10–12 years of age and 13–15 years of age, respectively, are eligible to take the Entrance Exam on 5 January of the year in which entry is requested. The boys would enrol in a recognised school in Class VIII for admission to Class IX. Admission will only be given in order of merit.

***In the past only male candidates are eligible to take admission in Sainik School all over India. From 2018, girls can also take admission to the sainik schools at Bijapur (Karnataka), Chandrapur (Maharashtra), Ghorakal (Uttarakhand), Kalikiri (Andhra Pradesh), and Kodagu (Karnataka).
Exam Pattern of Sainik School Entrance Exam (AISSEE) 2020
The AISSEE entrance exam will consist of two papers–Paper I and Paper II. Paper I is a 200-mark test, 100 marks for quantitative test and 100 marks for language ability exam. This will be taken in the first half of the day.. Paper II will be a 100-mark Intelligence test. The duration of Paper I is two hours, and that of paper II is 50 minutes. The applicants should go through a medical exam in which they will be examined according to the authority’s physical standard.

Seat Reservation in Sainik Schools
State Quota – State quota is 67% where the school is located. These seats are reserved for the candidates of that State.
Open Category – Remaining 33% seats are open to boys from all other states and Union Territories. For the sons of service personnel including ex-serviceman; only 25% seats are reserved, while 15% seats are reserved for SC Category and 7.5% for ST Category.
Girls joining Sainik Schools
Sainik Schools Society has now opened the application portal for girl students also. Girls who aspire to study in Sainik schools can take admission in Sainik schools in Bijapur (Karnataka), Chandrapur (Maharashtra), Ghorakal (Uttarakhand), Kalikiri (Andhra Pradesh), and Kodagu (Karnataka).
All India Sainik School Entrance Exam (AISSEE) is conducted to select students for admission to class 6 and class 9. AISSEE 2020 will be held on January 5, 2020.
Girl students can apply for AISSEE 2020 through the official website, ‘sainikschooladmission.in’. For admission to Class 6, the student should be between 10 and 12 years, and for admission to Class 9, he/she should be between 13 and 15 years as on March 31, 2020.
